Improving Sharpness of Display with Fiber Optic Faceplate
Embed Fiber Optic Faceplate into OLED/LCD devices
The application design includes a fiber optic faceplate, OLED or similar display elements, and the substrate will be disposed over the OLED elements.
User can view the image through the substrate, and the sharpness of the display device could be improved.
Figure 1. Illustration of OLED Display with Fiber Optic Faceplate
Improving Sharpness between Pixels
When OLED display is used in system that have large numerical aperture, for example VR devices. The internal reflections in the glass substrate or cover plate will reduce the sharpness of the display.
Figure 2. Large Aperture Numerical System Reduce the Image Sharpness
As showed above,When view through a large numerical aperture lens (NA>0.25).
Multiple images is formed by ray A and ray B. Hence, this will reduce the sharpness of the display.
Figure 3. OLED Display system with Fiber Optic Faceplate
Light in Fiber Optic Faceplate can’t propagate horizontally,
this will eliminate the multiple images formed by single pixel. Which reduce the sharpness of display.
Figure 4. Sharpness Comparison Between different Substrate
We use a microscope to scan the transition between light and dark pixels rows.
Result shows Fiber Optic Faceplate has a better sharpness than Glass substrate.
